d. 1991 Jean Maffey studied painting at art schools in Yorkshire and Surrey. She was involved in clay work at the Adult Education Centre in Working and set up her own studio in 1975. She died in 1991.

Jean Maffey wrote: "As it was impossible to obtain the dimensions of the buildings, each one was photographed. These were then scaled up 2.5 times onto paper and cut out and used as templates on rolled clay. Each building was treated as a tile and cut to interlock with its neighbour, the position of each tile noted. Coloured with slips and brush on glazes, then fired to 1100 degrees centigrade. Carefully laid out in their allotted position and fixed to wooden background and framed.
